Revised whiplash tariff now approved

In November 2024, Lord Chancellor Shabana Mahmood published the first statutory review of the Whiplash Injury Regulations 2021, which recommended that the whiplash tariff should increase to reflect inflation, since it was introduced in 2021.

The Whiplash Injury (Amendment) Regulations 2025 were laid in parliament on 20 March 2025 and have since been approved by the House of Commons on 2 April, with a further approval following a short debate in the House of Lords, this week. This will now will see the tariff increase by approximately 15%, coming into effect at the end of this month.

I’m a claimant, what does this mean for my claim?

There will be no changes to how claimants make their claims, however for any claim made on or after 31 May 2025, a new tariff award structure now applies, with the amounts shown below.

Claims made on or after 31 May 2021 but before 31 May 2025, will be awarded as per the previous tariff structure. This can be found in our Guide to Making a Claim here.

I am a professional user of the service, what’s next?

All OIC professional user stakeholders with API access will have already been sent communications regarding how the change in tariff will be reflected and implemented within the portal. The changes will be made to the system only and will require no downtime of the service. The deployment of changes into staging three will take place after working hours on the 9 May 2025.
